What, Why and How Cold Sore Treatment
What are cold sores? Are they the same thing as a canker sore? Why do they come back in the same place over and over again? How do I get rid of them quickly and naturally without taking drugs?
If you suffer from cold sores you know what a painful unsightly mess they can be. You may even know what triggers them for you. Stress, sunburn, fever, and even illness can bring on a lesion on the face at any time, and if you’re not careful, it can cause an ugly scar.
Cold sores or fever blisters as they are sometimes known, are actually small patches of blisters that are caused by an infection of the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). You may have first gotten them as a child when you experienced a high fever or over exposure to the sun. Even a stressful time in your life could have turned the virus on. Cold sores can appear anywhere on the outside of the face but are more likely to erupt on the lips, mouth or bottom of the nose. Unlike canker sores, which are ulcers that occur inside of the mouth caused by injury or nutritional deficiencies. Canker sores are not contagious and are easily hidden.
Cold sores are highly contagious and visible for the world to see usually at the worst possible time. If the pus from the blister spreads it can cause an eruption on other areas of your face and even spread to another person with direct contact or can be sexually transmitted.
Once inflicted with this pesky sore the virus lies dormant in the Trigeminal nerve and has no known cure. The Trigeminal nerve runs from each side of the face and has 3 branches of nerve endings that run to the jaw, nose, and eyes. Like an unwanted house guest, the virus hides in one of these nerve endings until something triggers it to rear its ugly head in the form of tiny painful blisters. Ouch! Hence, the recurring cold sore will show up in the same location and is usually at the tip of the exact same nerve ending.
Cold Sore Symptoms (Four Stages)
There are four stages of a cold sore and you know them all too well if you have been afflicted more than a couple of times.
- Area tingles and feels slightly painful to the touch.
- Blisters begin to fill with fluid and form clusters.
- Blisters burst forming enlarged red sore. (This is the stage the cold sore is likely to spread if not careful.)
- Blisters dry out, scab forms and falls off.
But you can stop the cold sore before it even appears on the skin. If you feel tingling or slight pain in the usual area act quickly. Call us or book an appointment online now.
The best cold sore medicine available is Valtrex or Acyclovir but if you want a natural approach we offer laser so give us a call and come in for cold sore treatment.
Laser Treatment For Cold Sores
We offer laser which is one of the most effective cold sore treatment and it’s natural too. Laser can help prevent the cold sore from breaking out if caught in time. Meaning the cold sore must be treated at the first sign of tingling. The benefit to this is no scab and no ugly scar. If not caught in time however, laser treatment will elevate the discomfort of the cold sore and speed up the healing process.
In the meantime, use sunblock on the area or stay out of the sun completely. Eat healthy (foods rich in lysine), avoid alcohol, and get plenty of sleep.
Cold sores are painful and ugly and they always come at the wrong time but with proper care they can be avoided and even stopped in their tracks naturally and quickly.
