Dental Sealants Phoenix, AZ.
The back teeth (molars and premolars) have grooves and pits, where food can get stuck and bacteria can grow easily. These spaces are difficult to clean with brushing alone.
A thin coating of dental sealant seals these tooth surfaces, protecting them against bacteria and cavities. At Paradise Ridge Family Dentistry, we offer different types of sealants for both kids and adults to create a protective barrier over those chewing surfaces.
Dental sealants work great for both kids and adults. Kids should get dental sealants when their permanent teeth come in. Typically, 6 to 14 is the right age, as cavities likely develop at this age.
For adults, as long as your back teeth have no big fillings or cavities, you are a good fit for dental sealants. There are no age restrictions. Sealants are often combined with fluoride treatment for enhanced cavity protection.
Types of Dental Sealants We Offer

Composite Resin Sealant
This is the most commonly used sealant, is tooth-colored, and sticks well to your teeth’ chewing surfaces. They are durable, resistant to wear, and can prevent cavities for up to 10 years by acting as a protective barrier.
Glass Ionomer Sealant
Glass Ionomer sealants are generally used for pit and fissure sealing on teeth that are hard to keep dry during the procedure. This is especially helpful in the case of young patients whose molars are still developing or are difficult to isolate. They have fluoride-releasing properties, keeping the teeth strong and cavity-free for up to 24 months.
Resin-modified Glass Ionomer Sealants
These sealants are a blend of glass ionomer and resin material. They are moisture-resistant, have fluoride-releasing properties, and are stronger than a regular glass ionomer sealant because they contain resin. Moreover, these are applied to the biting surface of teeth that need a little extra protection.
Compomer SealantsÂ
This is another hybrid type of sealant that is composed of resin and glass ionomer sealant material. It offers the durability of resin with the fluoride release and strong binding benefits of glass ionomer. They are easy to apply and provide protection against cavities and tooth decay, making them ideal for the dental care of children.
How Is Dental Sealant Applied?
The dental sealant application process is simple and takes around 15 to 30 minutes. This includes cleaning the teeth and removing plaque and hardened tartar. The teeth are then dried, and a mild gel is applied to roughen their surfaces. This helps the sealant stick properly to the tooth surface.
Next, your teeth are washed and dried again before applying the sealant to your teeth’s grooves. A dental curing light is placed over the teeth for a few seconds to harden the sealant. Sealants can also be applied during a routine dental cleaning appointment, making it easy to fit into your existing dental work.
Dental Sealants Aftercare
You can eat or drink immediately after the sealant is applied. However, avoid sticky and hard foods to help the sealants remain intact. Sealants generally last a very long time if you take good care of them.
Can I Get a Sealant If I Already Have a Filling?
Yes, you can still get a sealant even if you already have a dental filling, but we don’t generally recommend this. If the filling is small, i.e., covers only a part of your tooth, dentists can apply sealants on the other exposed part. Similarly, sealants can be applied to fillings with no signs of active decay.
Why Get Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants help prevent cavities and other tooth infections in both kids and adults. Their application is simple and painless, and they protect your overall oral health. If you maintain them properly, they can last 5 to 10 years. Most patients prefer them over fillings as they are affordable.
What Happens If A Sealant Chips or Wears Down?
Although sealants are highly durable, they don’t last forever. If, for some reason, your dental sealant chips off, you can get it retouched during your next routine dental exam. Additionally, if a sealant needs to be removed for any reason, the removal is quick and painless.
How Much Do Dental Sealants Cost in Phoenix?
Dental sealants usually cost around $30 to $60 per tooth, but the total price you pay also depends on the number of teeth and your insurance plan. They are generally affordable because they are part of preventive care.
