Get to Know Dr. Roberts
Growing up, Dr. Roberts liked working with his hands, doing artistic things such as constructing, building and designing. Initially, he pursued a career in architecture but decided that wasn’t for him.
His grandfather was an orthodontist and Dr. Roberts observed he was able to take care of his family and those in need around him so that initially intrigued him into looking into dentistry. Once he did, he realized it satisfied a lot of his natural desires of working with his hands, working with people and being able to be artistic about it.
People skills are one of Dr. Roberts’ strengths. He has a knack for making patients feel at ease especially those who have anxiety.
“When I perceive a patient is uneasy about things I like to let them know it's totally normal,” said Dr. Roberts. “A lot of times they feel out-of-place or they feel horrible and the reality is we all do. I usually just start by relating to them and then let them know my desire and job is try to keep them as comfortable as possible and afford them the same thing I’d want in their position.”
What many people don’t know about Dr. Roberts is that he has an identical twin brother who’s also a dentist in Las Vegas. That surprises many.
“It’s unique, both of us choosing dentistry. We both took a sabbatical from our college careers and served a mission for our church so during that process when we were in separate parts of the country. We both settled and agreed upon dentistry. When we got home we both were, ‘Oh, wow, you’re doing that? I was going to do that.’ It’s funny because most people think you’re twins and that’s why you thought of it. But for us, it was an individual but fun thing we both agreed to do. We both worked together toward that and supported each other going through that process.”
The brothers also have four other siblings.
Family time is important to Dr. Roberts, he enjoys spending time with his wife, three children, and two dogs in his free time. They enjoy visiting family in California, camping, hiking, and watching movies together.
Dr. Roberts also enjoys introducing his kids to video games he played as a kid but his real passion is woodworking.
“I recently built up a little tool shed in my garage. Just like dentistry, I like having tools that work well in certain situations where I can make and tinker with things as I feel the need.”
These days, it’s a challenge to find time with work and three children.
