Inlays And Onlays Phoenix, Arizona
Do you have a tooth that is not too damaged to be repaired via filling but also not bad enough that it needs a crown? Then inlays and onlays are just the right solution for you. The experienced dentist of Paradise Ridge Family Dentistry provides the best inlays and onlays for cracked, decayed, and weak teeth.
Inlays and onlays are custom-made, premolded restorations that restore the shape and function of a significantly damaged tooth. An inlay covers the damage inside your tooth, whereas the onlay covers the outer area of the tooth.

Porcelain (Ceramic) Inlays and Onlays
It is one of the most popular choices because its color can be matched exactly with natural teeth. Also, they are stain-resistant, strong, and handle the daily pressure of chewing well. It restores tooth structure by bonding tightly with the tooth, offering a seamless, long-lasting finish.
Inlays & onlays also provide cosmetic restorations.
Gold Inlays and Onlays
Gold inlays and outlays are the best choice in terms of durability and strength. However, it is not the best choice for patients who prefer aesthetically pleasing, tooth-colored restoration. Still, many individuals choose it to restore a damaged tooth as it can bear daily chewing pressure and can last up to 15 to 30 years.
Composite Resin Inlays and Onlays
Composite resin inlays and onlays are the budget-friendly option that delivers natural-looking results. These might not perform the best in terms of durability and bearing heavy chewing pressure, so we usually recommend them for mild to moderate damage on teeth.
We also offer an advanced option, i.e., hybrid inlays and onlays. The porcelain/ceramic ensures it matches your tooth, and the composite resin provides it with strength to perform well under heavy biting forces.
Zirconia Inlays and Onlays
This option is most suitable for individuals who want both exceptional strength and aesthetics in a restoration. Zirconia inlays and onlays have the durability of metal with the look of a tooth-colored material. It is also resistant to wear and corrosion, making it an ideal option for patients with a teeth-grinding habit.
Inlays and Onlays Preparation and Procedure
At Phoenix Ridge Family Dentistry, a consultation for dental inlays or onlays begins with a thorough oral examination, including an X-ray scan. If decay has reached the root, a root canal may be required.
After preparing the tooth, an impression of the damaged tooth is taken and sent to the lab for fabrication of custom inlays/onlays for you. On the next visit, a custom-made restoration is fitted, adjusted, and bonded securely in place. For your comfort, we perform the entire procedure under local anesthesia.
Inlays and Onlays Cost in Phoenix, AZ.
The average cost of an inlay or onlay in Phoenix, AZ is around $900 per tooth. It may vary depending on the material of the restoration and complexity of the treatment. Most insurance policies offer 50 to 80% cost coverage for inlays and onlays.
How Inlays and Onlays Compare to Veneers and Crowning?
What to Expect After Inlays/Onlays Treatment?
Recovering after getting inlays or onlays doesn’t take long because they are custom-fitted. Mild sensitivity and numbness in the first 48 hours are normal. During that time, it’s best to avoid very hot, cold, or hard foods to allow the bonding to settle properly.
In most cases, individuals return to their routine in a few days. However, depending on the treatment complexity, it may take you up to a week to fully recover from the procedure. Your follow-up visit will be scheduled by our team to make sure everything has bonded and settled as expected.
What Is The Difference Between Inlays And Onlays?
Inlays are placed in between the bumps of teeth. On the other hand, onlays covers a significant outer area of teeth. Inalys treat small inside cracks and early cavities. Onlays treat severe cavities or cover damaged teeth from the exterior. These are used to replace old fillings and preserve weakened teeth.
