What Can I Expect from IV Sedation?
Often referred to as “twilight” or “sleep dentistry,” IV sedation patients do not actually lose consciousness like many people believe. What is felt is a highly-relaxed state of mind. Patients can respond to questions and requests without feeling fear or anxiety. After the dental procedure is finished the patient may recall very little to nothing at all. Once the IV has been removed the sedative effects do not wear off right away, so it is important to make transportation arrangements beforehand. In fact, our staff will be happy to help you with making transportation arrangements if needed.
What is Dental Phobia?
Dental phobia is described as a condition that leaves people in a state of panic or horrified when faced with visiting the dentist. Those who have dental phobia are aware that their thoughts of fear are completely irrational but are unable to overcome them. Unfortunately, many people will do anything possible to avoid going to the dentist. They delay visiting the dentist until their pain becomes unbearable. Further, patients who put off routine dental exams, end up with periodontal disease and broken and unsightly teeth. Dr. Allen Peyghambarian is committed to helping his patients overcome their dental fears to help prevent these issues.
For those who have dental phobia shouldn’t feel alone. There are roughly 5% to 8% of (about 30 million to 40 million people) Americans who have dental phobia, and roughly 20% experience some level of anxiety. Putting of regular dental visits is a common behavior among those with dental phobia or dental anxiety. For many, the thought of visiting the dentist is horrifying.
