Katie is from Richmond, Utah, the same town Napoleon Dynamite was filmed. She moved to Arizona in 2008 where she attended college at the University of Arizona. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in physiology and then attended Fortis College, a dental hygiene school in Phoenix. Katie believes in giving back to others, as one of the founders of a dental mission group, she travels twice a year to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. In Mexico she provides continuing dental care for the community. Her experience is well diverse due to her background. She has worked as a hygienist at an HIV clinic in downtown Phoenix and she volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Additionally, she has worked as a CAN at a university medical center. Katie absolutely loves her job as a hygienist. She coins herself as a microbiology nerd with a focus on preventive dentistry. When asked if she could improve dentistry, she would love to use her pre med and dental hygiene degrees to increase her knowledge of the connection between poor oral health and the possible cause of systemic diseases. Katie believes that knowledge is power. Her goal is to educate her patients to decrease oral disease. When Katie is out of the office, she loves to lift weights and do yoga. She also enjoys to read and play with her border collie.
Beth grew up in rural Illinois. She went to Augustana College to start her career in dentistry after her brother, who is a MaxioFacial Surgeon, suggested it while she was still in high school. Beth graduated from Greys Lake college with a degree in Dental assisting and worked as a certified dental assistant for ten years. Her passion for dentistry grew so she enrolled at Phoenix College to complete her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. Over the past 34 years, Beth still enjoys interacting with her patients and promoting good oral health so that they live healthy lives. When asking Beth what she would like to change in dentistry, her comment is, “If I could make changes in dentistry, I would encourage the ADA to allow hygienists here in Arizona, to become expanded function Dental Therapists.” She desires to help the underprivileged fight against dental disease.
